In 2011, Welsh Government introduced the original Collections Blueprint – a bold vision for a more sustainable, efficient, and consistent approach to waste collection by, or on behalf of, local authorities across Wales. Now, over a decade later, the Collections Blueprint 2025 has been refreshed to reflect the latest practices, innovations, and evidence in the field.
This updated Blueprint builds on the success of the original, incorporating:
- advances in collection and sorting technologies;
- evolving best practices from local authorities; and
- new evidence on environmental and economic impacts.
It’s also gone further than recycling to include reuse, composting (including Anaerobic Digestion) and how to manage any waste left over, to provide the best overall sustainable outcomes in accordance with the requirements of the Well-being of Future Generations Act 2015.
To bring the Blueprint to life, WRAP Cymru has developed a suite of in-depth case studies showcasing how local authorities across Wales are putting it into action. These real-world examples highlight the benefits of consistent, high-quality services, from increased recycling rates to cost savings and improved public satisfaction.
Whether you're a policymaker, local authority, or simply interested in how Wales is leading the way in sustainable waste management, the Collections Blueprint 2025 offers a clear, evidence-based roadmap for the future.
