Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands Plastics Pact

Regional Collaboration

We are, in partnership with the Commonwealth Clean Ocean Alliance, Commonwealth Marine Litter Programme and Defra supporting the islands of Fiji, Vanuata and Samoa to participate in the regional Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Plastics Pact (ANZPac), developed by APCO (Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation) and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

Small island nations are particularly susceptible to plastic produced elsewhere and delivered to the islands where it enters the environment as waste.

Regional collaboration is key to addressing this.

This work gives the islands a chance to influence what plastic arrives on their shores and identify ways for the plastic waste to be economically collected and recycled either locally or at a central hub.

WRAP is providing support and assistance from the British High Commission in Fiji, Samoa and Vanuata as part of a commitment to tackling plastic waste throughout the Commonwealth.

This work is being delivered, working with the ANZPac Plastics Pact
