This guidance, developed by WRAP and supported by Defra, is designed to help local authorities in England implement the Simpler Recycling requirements. In particular, it supports the introduction of separate collections for food, drink and other liquid cartons from all households, including flats, from 31 March 2026.
The guidance covers both aseptic and refrigerated cartons made of a fibre-based composite, which are included within the plastic waste stream in Part 4 of Schedule 1 of The Separation of Waste (England) Regulations 2024
