The Plastics Pact Network has been named a winner of the prestigious GAEA Award by the World Economic Forum, recognising its role in accelerating collaborative systems change that benefits people, nature, and climate.
This global accolade celebrates the collective achievements of 13 Plastics Pacts operating across 19 countries in both the Global North and South. Together, these national initiatives represent over 2 billion people and convene more than 900 businesses, governments, and civil society organisations committed to eliminating plastic pollution.
Through voluntary action and cross-sector collaboration, the Plastics Pact Network, co-convened by WRAP and Ellen MacArthur Foundation, is driving measurable progress toward a circular economy for plastics.
The Plastics Pact Network has eliminated over 360,000 tonnes of problematic and unnecessary plastics, which prevented billions of items entering landfills or filtering into the environment. In some Pact countries, rates of recycled content in plastic packaging have tripled.
Overall, members of Plastics Pacts prevented the use of over 2.2 million tonnes of virgin plastic by 2022. From aligning policy and industry practices to scaling innovation, the Network is demonstrating how local action can deliver global impact.
