WRAP capacity building videos

After the launch of the first Plastics Pact, the UK Plastics Pact, in 2018, WRAP has been involved on the delivery of several similar voluntary agreements around the world.

WRAP has supported business across the plastics value chain to better manage plastics (and in particular packaging) in their portfolio, and to move towards the implementation of a circular economy. The experience and expertise developed by WRAP in this field across the years has been shared with the partners leading Plastics Pacts around the world and has supported the creation and delivery of actions in several countries across all continents.

In collaboration with the MAVA Foundation, WRAP has developed a series of training videos for international partners for capacity building purposes. The videos give insightful overviews about the most important steps to create and manage a voluntary agreement on plastics, including the engagement of members, the creation of effective communications, the publication of documents and strategies, and suggestions on how to raise additional funding.

Module details:

Plastic Pacts background & set-up

What are Plastics Pacts? What are their targets? What is the background that led to their establishment? This module introduces these voluntary agreements, and explain their goals and strengths.

How a Plastic Pact delivers change

Plastics Pact want to deliver change. This module informs on how to drive change through setting timelines with strategic documents like the roadmaps; how to create actions through members in the actions groups; and how to align with other initiatives.

Stakeholders and roles in the Plastics Pact

This module highlights the importance that members, supports and other stakeholders have in establishing the success of a Plastics Pact. It also focuses on the importance of the secretariat and on the necessity to consider ‘external’ actors such as the Government or the informal sector.

The importance of data

Data provide the source of information to design effective measure and tackle plastics mismanagement. This module speaks about what type of data shall be collected, how they should handled and how they can be used to track progression towards the Pact’s targets.

Communication is very important for a Plastics Pact and this module shows what to do in order to build an effective internal and/or communication strategy. The modules also shows examples of activities (key events, launches, online profiles, website) that should be included in the communications of a Plastics Pact.

Principles of business development

The first of two modules focused on business development. The module shows the different types of Income & Funding Mechanisms such as grants, donations, contracts and service agreements. It also list the steps to take to engage with funders and how to build an effective business development strategy.

Applying business development principles for Plastic Pact initiatives

This is the second module focused on business development. Starting from explaining the importance of the Pact approach to circular economy, the presentation shows how to target funders and lists examples of successful fundraising campaigns. It also explains how WRAP can support the Pacts unlocking more resources.
