Reducing greenhouse gas emissions

The road to Net Zero.

The food system has a critical role to play in reducing global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. With demands on natural resources at a critical level, the time to act to secure our food systems for the future is now.

WRAP is spearheading change across the food and drink sector to enable action toward achieving net zero. Through our world leading Scope 3 Protocols we are helping businesses measure and report food sector GHGs. And through our industry partnership we are driving collective action through the Retailer Net Zero Collaborative Action programme and the Net Zero Transition Plan for the UK Food System.

Why action is needed?

30%
Food production and consumption make up around 30% of global CO2 emissions.
3rd largest emitter
If food waste were a country, it would be the world’s 3rd largest emitter of greenhouse gases (GHG) after China and the USA*.
