Helping to implement policy
We are working with governments around the world to shape policy decisions that can be developed into actions that prevent waste.
Governments can come under intense pressure to combat issues such as food waste or plastic pollution and with introduction of climate change legislation, the environment is front and centre of the public’s minds.
Our technical experts are regularly called upon to advise and support national governments in the UK and abroad. The work can include cost modelling, economics and technical support. We are uniquely placed to work with government departments to propose solutions that work across industry sectors and can bring together key players at all points of the supply chain.
What is WRAP doing?
We are currently working with UK’s Department of Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs (Defra), Welsh Government, and Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) in Northern Ireland. As part of their support to the Commonwealth Clean Ocean Alliance and Commonwealth Litter Programme, Defra are also funding WRAP to develop and support Plastics Pacts in a number of Commonwealth nations.
Internationally, we are working with the governments of Denmark, Germany, Australia and Mexico on food waste. Our work for the Pacific Coast Collaborative Voluntary Agreement is funded by US cities and state governments such as British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, California, and the cities of Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Oakland and Los Angeles.
UKRI
UK Research and Investment are partnering with WRAP to develop and deliver a Plastics Pact in India. UKRI will invest £250,000 in the project.
FCDO
WRAP has benefited from enormous support from the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office teams in British High Commissions and Embassies around the world. FCDO teams have excellent connections with policy makers and businesses and have been instrumental in introducing WRAP to key stakeholders in each plastics pact country.
