This is an Article list heading

This is an Article list summary. You can signpost other content in an eye-catching way by using the Article List paragraph. It will pull through the image from the page you are linking to. You will also have the option to change the image later in the project. You can add multiple items to your Article list but consider using the Grid paragraph option for more than 2 or 3 items.

Local Initiatives

Most of the everyday products we consume come from unsustainable systems. WRAP works to transform those systems for a thriving sustainable world where circular living is commonplace.

  • Social Impact

The project has created new jobs to restore water with communities and local growers.

Over 100 new local jobs created to improve water management in South Africa
    +

Funding contributed by UK Food and Drink Pact signatories has been catalytic, enabling the Catchment Coordinator role in South Africa at a time when no government funding was available.

Local partners have created and sustained over 100 local jobs, including 75 river restoration roles, providing essential income and improving water quality and availability. The work provided much-needed income during a difficult economic time.

  • Environmental Impact

Local ecosystems have been protected so that fresh produce can flourish for generations to come.

12,000 hectares of land protected and **200L/tree** of water restored in the Western Cape
    +

Land in the Twee-Rivieren Nature Reserve has expanded by 2,500 hectares, with 12,000 hectares now under sustainable water management.

Clearing thirsty invasive trees frees up to 200L of water per tree, restoring indigenous vegetation that strengthens flood resilience. This has ensured a more reliable water supply for communities and farmers, helping local agriculture withstand recent flooding.

  • Funding & Partnerships

Further investment has been achieved to strengthen water security for food production.

£1 million of funding unlocked from local government for on-the-ground action
    +

The Catchment Coordinator, supported through WRAP's Collective Action Project and partner businesses, helped secure £500,000 in new funding for operational activities in 2023/2024.

A further £500,000 is committed by the South African Department of Agriculture for 2025/2026, strengthening long-term water security and building local capacity through upskilling workers.
